On April 18, 2023, Vice President Han Zheng met with Uruguayan Foreign Minister Francisco Bustillo Bonasso in Beijing.

Han Zheng said that in recent years, under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Luis Lacalle Pou, China-Uruguay relations have shown sound momentum of development. It is important that the two sides jointly implement the important common understandings reached between the two heads of state, and take the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations as an opportunity to deepen political mutual trust, promote practical cooperation, enhance cultural and people-to-people exchanges, and strengthen strategic coordination, so as to carry forward the traditional friendship between the two countries and take the China-Uruguay strategic partnership to a new level. China will further deepen reform and expand opening up, and advance the process of Chinese modernization. China is ready to work with Uruguay to share development opportunities, support each other in independently exploring a path of modernization, and move towards prosperity and strength together.

Francisco Bustillo Bonasso said that Uruguay and China, though oceans apart, have continued to develop bilateral relations and cooperation with firm determination. Uruguay firmly pursues the one-China principle, deeply admires China's domestic and foreign policies, and looks forward to strengthening cooperation with China in various fields to jointly create a brighter future for the two countries and two peoples.
