On April 21, 2016 local time, Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzadin Waddaulah of Brunei met at the Royal Palace in Bandar Seri Begawan city with Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzadin Waddaulah asked Wang Yi to convey good wishes to President Xi Jinping. Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzadin Waddaulah expressed that paying high attention to relations with China, Brunei stands ready to continuously strengthen mutual trust, and deepen economic and trade cooperation with China, so as to promote the new development of bilateral relations and jointly safeguard the peace and stability in the South China Sea region. Brunei will adhere to the One-China policy.

Wang Yi conveyed warm greetings from President Xi Jinping to Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzadin Waddaulah. Wang Yi expressed that this year marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Brunei. With Mutual respect and equal treatment, the two countries have set up a model for the harmonious relations between big and small countries. China stands ready to maintain high-level exchanges with Brunei, promote a better docking of the Belt and Road initiative and "Wawasan 2035" of Brunei, support Brunei to advance the economic diversification strategy, and help Brunei play a central role in East ASEAN Growth Area. China will also promote cooperation with Brunei in key areas such as energy and infrastructure construction, advance the construction of Brunei-Guangxi Economic Corridor, expand communication in people-to-people and cultural fields including culture, education, health and tourism, and constantly inject new connotation to the strategic cooperative relations, so as to consolidate the friendly public support between the two countries. China appreciates Brunei for sticking to the One-China policy and supporting China's great cause of peaceful reunification.
