Wang Yi Meets with Second Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Dato Seri Paduka Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof of Brunei

On August 4, 2018, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Second Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Dato Seri Paduka Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof of Brunei on the sidelines of the Foreign Ministers' Meetings on East Asia Cooperation in Singapore.

Wang Yi expressed that China and Brunei are friendly neighbors and close partners. The leaders of the two countries have established a sincere friendship. China-Brunei relations have set an example of equal treatment and harmonious co-existence between big and small countries. The two countries have jointly safeguarded peace and stability in the South China Sea, which serves as an example of properly dealing with disputes and jointly conducting cooperation in the region. The Chinese side is willing to, together with the Bruneian side, maintain high-level exchanges, integrate the Belt and Road Initiative with Brunei's "Vision 2035", expand cooperation fields between the two countries, and steadily push forward maritime cooperation, so as to provide driving forces for Brunei's economic diversification. The two sides could maintain close communication on conducting cooperation between China and the East Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Growth Area, and create a new model of unique sub-regional cooperation to promote China-Brunei relations for new development.

Dato Seri Paduka Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof noted that Brunei and China enjoy sound relations. The Bruneian side looks forward to enhancing high-level mutual visits, strengthening practical cooperation in various fields, and maintaining close communication on international and regional issues. The Bruneian side appreciates that the Chinese side has always been supporting the construction of the ASEAN Community, and believes that the cooperation between China and the East ASEAN Growth Area is of strategic significance, which is not only conducive to helping the economic development of the ASEAN countries, but also promoting the further development of Brunei-China relations. The Bruneian side stands ready to work together with the Chinese side to promote Brunei-China relations and ASEAN-China relations for more outcomes.
