On Dec.1,His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has consented to send a message of condolence to Chinese President Xi Jinping on the passing of former president Jiang Zemin.

His Majesty Sultan stated in the message that the former president was a good friend and His Majesty has fond memories of his state visit to Brunei Darussalam during the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in 2000 and also the productive discussions during the last meeting in Shanghai in 2001. His Majesty Sultan very much appreciated his efforts in deepening the long-standing bilateral relations and the mutual understanding shared on regional and multilateral issues.

His Majesty stated that as a great statesman, the former president will always be remembered by the Chinese people for the steadfast dedication in enhancing the overall well-being of the people as well as leading the country into greater economic stability and prosperity.

In ending the message, His Majesty Sultan stated that the Government and people of Brunei Darussalam offer their most heartfelt condolences to the government and people of China, especially to the bereaved family of the late former president.
