On April 5, 2026, Brunei's newspaper Borneo Bulletin published the article entitled “Dance of Robots”: A Vivid Practice of China's New Quality Productive Forces Development by H.E. Chen Shaochun, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam. Local newspaper United Daily, Sin Chew Daily and See Hua Daily also reported. The full text of Ambassador’s article is as follows:

At yesterday's Hari Raya celebration hosted by Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, a unique “crossover” dance between robots and human performers was successfully presented. Humanoid robots from China took the stage together with teachers and students from YSHHB, dancing gracefully to lively music for Hari Raya celebration. The performance offered His Majesty Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and friends from all sectors of Brunei a visual feast blending technology and art, adding a bright highlight to the celebration of the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Brunei.

I was honored to accompany His Majesty during the exhibition tour. I introduced to His Majesty that this is the very first of China's humanoid robots to Brunei, offering a close-up display of the latest achievements in the development of China's new quality productive forces. The robots' dance, combining coordination and aesthetic beauty, reflects years of China's dedicated progress in core algorithms, precision sensing, as well as control systems, and serves as a vivid example of how China has been driving high-quality development through new quality productive forces.

From top-level design to practical implementation, from technological breakthroughs to real-world applications, and from policy support to ecosystem building, China today is accelerating the construction of a modern industrial system led by technological innovation, with a steady stream of innovation results that benefit people's livelihoods continuing to emerge. China has ranked first globally in the production and sales of new energy vehicles for 11 consecutive years. Large AI models like DeepSeek and Seedance are flourishing, while application scenarios for drones, the Internet of Things, and robotics continue to expand. China is transforming from the “world's factory” into an “innovation hub”, with increasingly diverse driving forces, as well as more confident, steady progress in its high-quality development.

This year marks the beginning of China's 15th Five-Year Plan. The plan sets the important goal of “substantial improvements in scientific and technological self-reliance and strength”, and identifies “achieving greater self-reliance and strength in science and technology and steering the development of new quality productive forces” as a key strategic task. Over the next five years, China's national innovation system will see a marked improvement in overall performance, an integrated development pattern of education, science and technology, and talent will take shape, and capabilities in basic research and original innovation will be significantly strengthened. Breakthroughs in key core technologies in critical fields will accelerate, producing a number of major, original, landmark, and leading scientific achievements, with more areas shifting from catching up to leading.

Scientific and technological innovation has never been achieved in isolation; it relies on cooperation and mutual benefit. As President Xi Jinping pointed out, “The rougher the seas, the more we must pull together.” In the face of headwinds of unilateralism and protectionism, China, as the world's most important force for peace, for stability and for justice, remains committed to high-standard opening up. China makes overall consideration of its own development needs and global expectations, while pursuing its own scientific and technological progress, actively integrates into global innovation networks, and strengthens cooperation with countries worldwide in areas including scientific and technological innovation, digital economy, and green development, providing more public goods and making greater contributions to global technological and economic progress.

China always places the neighboring region in a priority position of its diplomatic agenda. President Xi Jinping often quotes the traditional Chinese proverb, “Neighbors wish each other well, just as loved ones do to each other”, emphasizing the original aspiration of mutual trust and support between China and its neighbors. China stands ready to work with neighboring countries, including Brunei, to align the Belt and Road Initiative with development strategies of neighboring countries such as Wawasan Brunei 2035, actively expand cooperation in new quality productive forces, deepen talent exchanges and capacity building, and create new highlights in areas such as green energy, smart ports, and digital healthcare. Through these efforts, China's scientific and technological innovation and development prosperity will benefit more people in neighboring countries, jointly writing a new chapter of building an innovation-driven, mutually beneficial China-Brunei community with a shared future as well as a community with a shared future with neighboring countries.
