On this auspicious occasion of the 40th Anniversary of the Independence of Brunei Darussalam, I am honored to forward the greetings and congratulations from His Excellency Xi Jinping, President of the people’s Republic of China to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam. Meanwhile, on behalf of the Chinese Embassy and in my own name, I extend my warmest congratulations to His Majesty as well as the people of Brunei Darussalam.
The ancient Chinese thinker Confucius once said, “At forty, one should have no more doubts”, meaning that at the age of forty, one should have insights into all things and mature wisdom about the world. It is the same for a country. Under the wise leadership of His Majesty, Brunei features political and social stability, sound economic development, and enjoys the reputation of “Adobe of Peace”， with its people living in peace, prosperity and contentment, and itself playing an active role in international and regional affairs. In a nutshell, Brunei has made remarkable and fruitful achievements over the past forty years.
China and Brunei are close neighbors across the sea, trustworthy friends and partners of common development, enjoying a long-lasting friendship. Last November, H.E. President Xi Jinping and His Majesty had a successful meeting in San Francisco and guided the development of bilateral relations, reflecting high-level bilateral political mutual trust as well as practical cooperation. The high-quality cooperation under the framework of Belt and Road and across all fields of bilateral relations has promoted the steady progress of Wawasan Brunei 2035 and brought more benefits to the two peoples. This year is of special significance, as it marks the 40th Anniversary of the Independence of Brunei Darussalam as well as 75th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China. China stands ready to work with Brunei to implement the important consensus reached by the two Heads of State and enrich the connotation of bilateral Strategic Cooperative Partnership, so as to put more impetus to the national development of Brunei, and build a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind together.
May His Majesty enjoy good health! May Brunei Darussalam enjoy prosperity and its people happiness and well-being!
